Is Snowboarding for you?

Here are some simple things to keep in mind while you try to figure it out if you are a "Boarder" or a "Skier".

The first step is to make sure that your snowboard is right for you. You want a board that is not too short, long, wide, or narrow. The wrong size board will make snowboarding more difficult then it has to be.

Snowboarding has similar body movements to skiing. Your knees are slightly bent to help absorb bumbs. Just like skiing, staying relaxed is the key to avoiding injury. Your first time on a snowboard you should start off by playing around with your board on one foot. (your front foot) and skate across the hill. If your right foot is forward you are considered a "regular" rider. If your left foot is forward you are considered a "goofy" rider. Once you are comfortable doing that, strap your other foot in and start to head down the hill. (Green is a good start). Your front foot is used for stearing. There are many different types of turns to be made and can best be learned by taking a lesson.

The Cautious Skier:

This is the skier that prefers slow to moderate speeds and a gentle sloping terrain. Snow plowing and big, wide turns are a sure tell sign that you might be a "Cautious Skier".

The Moderate Skier

This is the skier that prefers a variety of speeds and varied terrains. This type of skier can manuever easily on the slopes but may not be ready to head out of bounds or down any double black diamonds. The moderate skier doesn't quite fall into the "Cautious" or "Expert" categories.

The Expert Skier

This is the skier that zooms past you at unnatural speeds leaving a tracing red line across your line of site. This type of skier will zip in between and around any obsticles they can find. Terrain? Anything fast and challenging.
